1 - Report GIMUN 16

Air University debating team participated in the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute Model United Nations Conference (GIMUN 16). It was a three day simulation of United Nations General Assembly comprising of eight different committees. Current issues of the world were presented on the floor to debate and delegates contributed in providing solutions to draft a resolution in accordance to their country foreign policy.
This year our team bagged 10 awards including 3 Best Delegates and 7 honourable mentions, these were the highest number of awards won by any other institute participating in GIMUN. More than 30 national universities took part in the event this year. Our MUN team was led and coached by Muhammad Shahrez Abbasi (President AULS). 2 - Report on CPA Asia Hot Topic Forum

Members of Air University Literary Society (AULS) attended a two day seminar organized by the Senate of Pakistan in collaboration with Commonwealth Parliamentary Association in Marriott Hotel Islamabad. The theme of the seminar was ‘Democracies in transition and challenges they face’. It was an attempt to educate our country’s youth on the democratic transitions in Asia. This seminar was attended by Parliamentarians from CPA regions of Asia and South-East Asia.
At the opening of the CPA Asia Regional Hot Topic Forum, Hon. Mian Raza Rabbani, Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan expressed the hope that with regular interactions like these and by playing an even more constructive part in the Association, Pakistan can benefit more to address the problems of freedom, national integration, implementation of policies, federation and power of the central government in its democracy and to establish itself firmly as a true democracy in the community of the parliamentary democracies of the CPA and around the globe.
A wide range of issues and challenges confronted by democracies in Asia and South –East Asia were discussed by well experienced parliamentarians and members from civil society. The panel consisted of well-known names like Senator Raja Zafar-ul-Haq (Leader of the House in Senate Pakistan), Senator Aitzaz Ahsan (Leader of the opposition in Senate Pakistan) and Senator Sherry Rehman. Students of Air University actively participated in the debate after the Panel discussion and contributed in the best possible way to come up with viable solutions for the betterment of the region.

3 - ASME Student Leadership Training Workshop- Post Event Write-Up

On the 6th October 2016, the ASME Air University in collaboration with the ASME UET Lahore held its first ever Student Leadership event. Student Leadership training program formally started with the recitation from the Holy Quran and was followed by a welcome address by the faculty incharge ASME, Dr. Mehr Nigar who highlighted the importance of leadership for today’s engineers.
Then the event rolled on with the presentations by ASME UET Lahore and ASME Air University members. Event continued its course with interesting talk by Head of Department Dr. Jehanzeb Masud. The event had a vast turn out with students from all over Air University attending in large numbers and taking an enthusiastic interest. Said students then actively participated in the panel discussion that focused on ASME involvement in the development of an engineering career.
The chief guest for the closing ceremony Vice-Chancellor AVM Faaiz Amir expressed his views about the importance of leadership in a student’s life. After a short break, the hierarchy of ASME Air University was announced and awarded, and the shield was presented to ASME UET members by the chief guest AVM Faaiz Amir, bringing the event to its end
This ASME leadership experience was designed to meet the varying level of leadership developments need for each student at Air University.The purpose of this session was to add experiences, opportunities, and an added dimension to life outside of the classroom.
This session also served as an introduction for students to world biggest engineering society ASME (American Society for Mechanical Engineers). The fruitful outcomes of this session were.
Outcomes
1) This event served as the foundation for ASME Air University chapter future endeavors thus producing real engineering environment in campus.
2) This event served as an excellent platform for Air University students to gain and share knowledge about the largest Engineer’s Society.
3) This event motivates our students to actively exercise learned skills and showcase the positive image of AIR University at national and international level.
4) This session provided the platform for students to share their ideas and to collaborate with each other.
After this session the students are showing keen interest to be part of ASME. They are also interested to take part in the technical competitions which will be organized by ASME in near future. This session really helped society to provide more technical environment to students, encourage them to go beyond the classrooms scope and into the real life applications so that they have all the necessary skills to shine on the global arena.The ASME will keep working with the other universities to initiate further projects over the course of the coming years for Air university students.

4 - Participation of AUTS dramatic Team at National Theatre Festival

Event Details:
The Millennium University College organizes its annual National Theater Festival 2016 (NTF ’16) its first mega event of the year. It is a Inter University Dramatics Competition between the dramatics societies of different institutions from all over Pakistan organized to inspire young artists by engaging them in creative activities designed to help them explore their potential.
The Millennium University College, a world-class academic provider and multi-faceted institution, is a center for excellence and above all a platform for advancing global progress and student opportunities. It has a very talented Student Council which has organized big events like the Millennial Global Entrepreneurship Weak 2015, Fashion Show 2015 and the Millennial National Moot-Court Competition 2015 and now the National Theatre Festival 2016.
AUTS achievements at the event:
  • Got 3rd position in the competition.
  • 1 actor Muhammad Aleem got the best actor Award
  • 1 actor Ahsan Mustafa got the HM for supporting role.

5 - Ufone Career Counseling Session

Placement office had organized Ufone Career Counseling Session on 17th Nov 2016. Guest speaker for the session was Mr. Syed Naveed Abbas (Sr. Manager OSS, OSS & Governance Ufone). A dynamic and ambitious Telecom Professional with 17+ years of in-depth knowledge of Telco Networks. Technically minded, accustomed to delivering time-sensitive projects, with ability to quickly interpret end user requirements and offer innovative short and long term Telecom solutions. He has enriched knowledge of team development, coaching and management skills. He had explained in detail how to make suitable resume, do’s and don’ts of interview. Final semester students showed positive interest in session and asked lot of questions in end of session.

6 - TOEIC and TOFEL Session

Air University placement office had organized TOEIC and TOFEL session on 10th Nov 2016. Session was about importance of communications skills in job market. The expert also explained English-language program is an international student’s first step toward a more promising future. So faculty has to strengthen student’s skills, which will help them on this path. The TOEFL ITP tests give faculty access to the renowned methodology of the TOEFL® test right in your classroom. They let you pinpoint the areas in which your students need help, so you can tailor your teaching to meet those needs. And knowing your students’ English skill levels better today gives them the best chance for success tomorrow.

7 - The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) Fulbright Session:

Placement office had organized The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) Fulbright session on 22nd Nov 2016. The session included
1: Informational Seminar on Fulbright Scholarships, Study in the U.S. and orientation for GRE and TOEFL (for general student body and faculty)
2: Free GRE preparatory workshop at campus for a select group of serious students committed to prepare for GRE. This workshop is 3 hours long and includes Math, English and Essay sections of the GRE
3: After a preparation period of one month, free GRE mock test will be conducted at campus
4: Top 5 students who get a combined score (Quantitative Reasoning and Verbal Reasoning) of 300 or above are awarded free GRE test vouchers

8 - Alumni Reunion Dinner 2016

On Saturday 24 September, 2016 Annual Alumni Reunion Dinner 2016 was organized by the Placement and Alumni Affairs Office of Air University. Over 300 AU graduates were present. We were delighted that this year’s reunion had the best turn out ever. Our Chief Guest for the event was the honorable Vice Chancellor AVM (R) Faaiz Amir. Also in attendance were the Senior Dean Dr. Zafar-ullah Koreshi, Director Academic AVM (R) Tariq Matin, Deputy Director Student Affairs Ms. Fazaila Ali Qazi, Chair Humanities Department Dr. Wasima Shehzad, Chair Avionics Department Dr. Israr Hussain, Director South Campus Air Cdre Dr. Shahid Baqir and Faculty Members.
Alumni Association was created in the same event. Air University Placement Office selected President, General Secretary, Marketing Manager and Event Manager for Alumni Association. The purpose of the association is to foster a spirit of loyalty and to promote the general welfare of University. Air University Alumni association exist to support the university’s goals, and to strengthen the ties between alumni, the community, and the University.
In his address to Alumni, the Vice Chancellor shared the progress University has made for last years in various fields like infrastructural development, research & development, building external linkages & partnerships and other value added support systems. During address, honorable Vice Chancellor encouraged alumni to maintain contacts with their alma mater. He assured full support to alumni in their future endeavors related to career advancement and activities related to research and development.
The evening was very special, as Alumni from out of stations also attended the event. They mingle out with each other. The dinner provided them a good chance to meet up and reminisce in an informal setting. The participants were entertained with marvelous musical performances and memorable video presentations. All the dinner participants were presented with attractive souvenirs. In the end a hearty dinner was served for the guests. The entire evening seemed to be filled with memories and melodies.

9 - Event: TAD Hack

To familiarize the students with the telecom based applications, its importance in the industry and how effectively one can make these applications on its own and start using it as a startup business.
An international event known as, this occurs every year around the globe. This event took place in our university on October 15, 2016 with a motive to help and aware the students the importance of Telecom based applications and how to develop them by applying a simple knowledge and start using it as startup business. This workshop was led by Mr. Ather Rafique, Deputy Chief Manager, and PIA.
Air University promotes such Entrepreneurial ventures and will be looking forward to organize more such events for the students.

10 - National Enrollment Drive in the Country

Air University fully is pleased to become part of this campaign from HEC regarding “National Enrollment Drive in the Country” to enroll maximum number of Out-of-School Children (OOSC) into primary level, in order to achieve MDGs of vision 2025. It is being initiated as a national cause to extend our helping hand in educating the underprivileged children. Air University was able to get a total number of 94 out-of school-children enrolled to public schools so far till 30 April, 2016.

11 - Report on Bilingual Declamation Contest

On 6th October 2016, The Air University Literary Society arranged a declamation competition by the name “AU Bilingual Declamation Contest”. About 40 students applied from all departments of the university. After shortlisting the students based on their departments and past experience in the debates, 17 students were selected. Majority of the participants were from Fall ’16 batch which was an attempt to involve the new comers. The main reason for carrying out this event was to highlight the talents of our students, and also to bring out potential debaters amongst them. It gave new debaters a platform to garnish their skills in the domain on public speaking by competing with the experienced orators of Air University. This shall help AU win many awards in the inter-university competitions in the days to come. The event occurred from 11:40am to 01:30pm in the LTC Hall, and managed to attract a decent amount of students as an audience. Faculty members and Directors were also present to witness the event. Debates were judged by the prestigious faculty members from the department of Humanities. The Vice Chancellor was the chief guest of the event.

The event was an overall success, and was even encouraged to be performed on a National Level by the VC at the end of the contest in his speech. AULS wishes to serve this university with the best intend to uplift the standards of literary and debating events in the upcoming future.

12 - South Asia Tour 2016 held by Placement Office in AU

Placement Office, in collaboration with EducationUSA at The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP), organized an information session with the admission representatives from the American Universities on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 10:00 am at LTC Hall
The admission representatives had discussed the requirements for applying to Master’s & Ph.D. programs, scholarships and other financial aid options.

The AU Cultural Society organized “FROSH(A Day with Freshman 2016)” on 8 September 2016 (Thursday. The event provided the platform to the freshman (entire batch of 2016) to interact with their seniors and experience a welcoming & comfortable environment at AU. For the new entrants to learn the event included the experiences of illumine students and how they wriggled through their hardships to their success. The event also highlighted achievements of students who bagged away top positions at different events

14 - Ufone's Thematic Campaign

Muhammad Muhsen Ali was invited to give a motivational talk on his achievements and hardships he faced during the period. He scored a total of 688 marks out of 800 breaking all previous records in Punjab. The talented individual hails from Hafizabad who works at his brother’s Tandoor shop during the day to support his family and contribute to their livelihood. M Muhsen Ali was the highest achiever in BA/BSC examinations of 2012 in Punjab University. Muhsen’s hard work and dedication paid off despite inadequate resources and he topped his batch. Objective of AU & Ufone is to register and elevate such individuals as inspirational figures in Pakistan for the masses, so that people can relate to these individuals when they see the TVCs on the television channels.

With the aim to build a strong community of EdTech startups, Plan9 is launching a UK AID funded campaign the " Tech-Knowledge " that would be catering specifically to the Education based Technology startups. Air University being the network partner of Plan9, supports its initiatives and thus hosted an awareness session on "Tech-Ed Startups" for its students on September 22, 2016, Thursday at 11:30 am, The Campaign is two pronged - Tech-Knowledge Startups and Tech-Knowledge Hunters. The Tech-Knowledge Startup campaign focused on identifying and recruiting EdTech startups. On the other hand, Tech-Knowledge Hunter programme is an ambassador drive which involves representatives from educational institutions representing Plan9 through the course of the campaign and aiding them in their "Hunt" for EdTech startups.

16 - 'Fazaia Day' (Youm-e-Fizaya)

Department of Student Affairs with assistance of Air Media Club organized ‘Fazaia Day’ (Youm-e-Fizaya) on 8 Sep, 2016 (Thursday) to pay tribute to entire Pakistan Air Force and especially the martyrs. Air Cdre Abdul Sattar Alvi was invited to deliver a motivational talk on our national hero’s and share his experiences. To entertain the guest the students have also planned a Mille Naghma Competition at the end of the event and a stall of souvenirs ‘was setup for the students

Department of Student Affairs organized an event 8 Sep, 2016 where Mr. Khurram Zafar (Executive Director LUMS Center of Entrepreneurship / Member board of Directors at Karandaaz Pakistan) was invited as a guest speaker for the seminar. He is a founder of the Center for Entrepreneurship at LUMS, which facilitates access to investment/venture capital, marketing resources, business services and corporate leaders to fast-track startup development.

19 - Air University Open House 2016

"Air University Open House 2016" displaying over 100 Final Year Projects (FYPs) designed, modelled, fabricated and tested by BS final year students of Electrical, Mechanical, and Mechatronics Engineering, and Computer Science. The Open House will be held on Thursday 12th May 2016 from 1000 - 1600 hrs at the Student Center, Air University, E-9, Islamabad. Students, Parents and industries are cordially invited to see the FYPs, interact with the graduating students and advise on future prospects for them as budding professionals.
